  • @vesic_jelena and I have come up with a 4-step plan for you to start working on the bent elbow lifting #vinyasa from #virabhadrasana.

1️⃣Keep the arms straight and place your hands down just behind your foot and below your shoulders. Lift the back heel by pivoting onto the ball of the foot.

2️⃣ Press into the hands, round your upper back, and lift the front foot. Keep the front thigh on your chest.

3️⃣ Keeping the elbows over the wrists, bend the arms 1/4 and bring your head and shoulders forward.

4️⃣Keep the elbows bent. Use the back foot to jump up, and extend the front leg back. Slowly lower into Chaturanga Dandasana.

🚫 Don’t be lazy.
✅ Bend that front knee to get the thigh parallel to the floor. If your knee comes past your toes, you might want to widen the distance between your feet.

🚫 Don’t avoid the hips.
✅ Drop your back hip and lift your front hip to get more 🔥opening🔥 across the pelvis.

🚫 Don’t forget your core.
✅ Pull your lower belly in and tuck your tailbone to access and develop your core strength.

  • It’s time for this week’s #AshtangaMondays! Today my winsome wife @vesic_jelena and I offer some no/yes tutorials for #Virabhadrasana A, the first #WarriorPose in Ashtanga’s Primary Series.

🚫 Don’t lift the hands.
✅ Try to keep the palms flat when stepping forward. Reach from your shoulders and  round your back to make room for the foot to come between your hands.

Video 2️⃣
🚫 Don’t square the hips/turn the back foot in.
✅ As per Ashtanga’s conditions of the posture, keep the back foot and thigh turned out. Keep the back hip rolled out and bring the side ribs forward.

🚫 Don’t collapse your knee.
✅ Make sure to keep the front knee in-line with the foot.

✅ Stick your bum out and really reach up through the arms and shoulders to create an even curve in the spine.

✅ Bend your knees and find the work in the legs 😅

✅ Bring your palms together by externally rotating the upper arms and sliding the shoulder blades up the back.
